Diwali lantern

Hello everyone,

Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating this week.  Here is a Diwali lantern for you to make to get into the festivities.

All you will need is:

  • A4 paper in your chosen colour
  • A sheet of coloured tissue paper
  • A craft knife
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Glitter and sequins to decorate

Firstly, draw a 1 cm border around your A4 paper.  Then with the paper landscape way measure and dot 5mm space along the top and bottom as shown below:

Then join the dots together:

Next, Cut along the lines you have drawn, but only upto the border NOT all the way off the paper.

Then fold the page in half length ways.

Next stick the tissue paper to the inside of the lantern.  This will give a nice glow effect.

Then fold the two width edges together and glue and stick.  Leave to dry.  If you would like to you can decorate your lantern with glitter and sequins.

You can then put a battery operated tealight or small bulb light inside to make your lantern glow.

DO NOT use a real tealight or candle as this will catch fire.

I hope you enjoy making your lantern and Happy Diwali 🙂
