Washi tape coasters

Here’s is a superb way to update your old coasters and give them a new lease of life.  I wanted to update a set of old coasters which were beginning to get quite worn.  This is a simple easy craft for everyone to have a go at and they don’t take long to make either.  It took me about 30 mins to make my set of four coasters.

You can get washi tape from all craft shops.  Hobbycraft have a great range available.

All you will need is:

  • Washi tape
  • Coasters
  • Scissors

Start by deciding on the design you would like on your coasters.  I wanted to do a striped design alternating the two tapes I have.

Make sure your coaster are clean and remove the shiny layer if you can so that the tape sticks to the coasters properly.

If you are doing stripes like me then it would be a good idea to measure the width of the tape and the coaster to ensure that the tape stripes are even (otherwise you might end up with a very thin stripe on one edge of your coaster 🙁 ).

Start adding the tape and cutting.  Don’t worry if you cut the tape slightly longer as you can neaten it up at the end.

Continue adding your design to the coasters.

Once you have finished your designs, trim around the edges of the coasters, and there you have it a set of new coasters to enjoy.
