Last year (2015) my husband Wayne and I felt we wanted to do something special at Christmas time. We decided to organise an event to raise money for a charity, and we chose Cancer Research UK for the tremendous work they do.
We wanted something that would also help us get into that Christmas spirit! So we decided to wrap presents!!!
We set up a stall in our local town of Loughborough at the Carillon Shopping Centre and together with family and friends volunteering their time we spent the day wrapping presents for a small donation per present. At first it was very quiet and we were beginning to get nervous as to whether anyone would come up to us. Then with friendly smiles and encouraging conversations we started getting busier and busier as the day went on.
We raised a fantastic £400 for Cancer Research in 2015, all thanks to everyone generous to donate and volunteer with us.
This year on 22nd and 23rd December 2016 we held the Christmas Wrap event again for two consecutive days with the hope of reaching our target of £1000!!
Not long after setting up our tables we had our first customer, and then a steady few, but after an hour it went all quiet. A few people stopped by to ask us what we were doing and they said they would be back, and others needed a little more encouragement (mostly by Wayne) asking them to come and get their presents wrapped.
Our wrapping skills were soon tested by a couple that took us up on our offer to wrap anything……and they asked us to wrap a dog bed! so with a few rolls of wrapping paper and plenty of tape we successfully accomplished the task! 🙂
We were certainly tested through the rest of the day as well where my niece Laura got asked to wrap a McDonalds meal milkshake and all (which she had fun wrapping).
The next day we were busy as soon as we arrived. We hadn’t even finished setting up yet when we had our first customer. We were busy, busy, busy all day and were grateful for a short break.
During the two days we wrapped hundreds of presents and we raised an awesome £720!!
A HUGE thank you to all our friends and family that helped us wrap all those presents, we certainly couldn’t have done it without you all! 🙂
Also, thank you to the Carillon Shopping Centre for allowing us to use their space, to Loughborough Town Hall for letting us borrow their tables, and to the Card Factory staff and Christmas Shop for donating the much needed wrapping paper.
Thank you everyone!
